چکیده
Private land comprises over half the mass of United States—dominating certain ecosystems and hosting large numbers threatened endangered species. Understanding privately owned properties is thus critically important to conservation, yet these lands remain understudied by conservation biologists. A key factor in this lack research difficulty gaining permission access private lands. However, there has been almost no empirical work offer guidance for natural scientists on issue. Using a combination mail surveys interviews, we undertook one first studies landowner decisions regarding their property research, identified primary drivers deterrents. We found that may have more success if landowners are interested learning about taking place, they previously allowed property, positive attitudes toward larger properties. also many out desire be helpful. Conversely, less likely allow concerned doing so will restrict free use property. Landowner age, education, trust science, attitude subject study were not significant predictors decisions. By considering our findings when requesting engaging with during can improve chances accessing properties, enhance satisfaction experience, increase likelihood amenable future requests conduct land.

Landowner and Practitioner Perspectives on Private Land Conservation Programs
Efforts to reverse declines in native grasslands benefit from agricultural policies that encourage private land conservation. The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Conservation Reserve Program (CRP) improved conservation across landscapes but enrollment has declined. We used sequential exploratory mixed methods to compare landowner and conservation practitioners’ perceptions, evaluate perceived ...

متن کاملPrivate Landowner Interest in Market-Based Incentive Programs for Endangered Species Habitat Conservation
More than 75% of endangered species in the United States rely on private lands for habitat. Although this habitat has long been regulated under the Endangered Species Act, there is now broad agreement that economic incentives are also needed for effective protection on private land. Many different mechanisms for incentive programs have been proposed and tested. For example, recovery credit syst...
متن کاملConservation in Practice Economics and Land-Use Change in Prioritizing Private Land Conservation
Incentive-based strategies such as conservation easements and short-term management agreements are popular tools for conserving biodiversity on private lands. Billions of dollars are spent by government and private conservation organizations to support land conservation. Although much of conservation biology focuses on reserve design, these methods are often ineffective at optimizing the protec...
